London & Leeds Brings The UK Carnival Season To A Close

The annual Leeds West Indian Carnival, was well attended this year. An estimated 150,000  spectators turned out to watch the parade of the bands, enjoy the music, as well as a wide variety of exotic foods and drinks at Potternewton Park.
Unlike last year, when the rain hampered the event, the hot weather created a different challenge for stall holders, who battled to provide cold drinks throughout the day.
There were around 25 arrests, mainly for alcohol and minor drug related incidents. However, the carnival was a great success, despite the current financial climate, the Carnival committee and its partners had to work with.

Mean while, at the Notting Hill Carnival, the revellers were treated to something out of the ordinary. Three police officers had an impromptu dance off, dressed in full uniform and high-viz jackets. Their “routine” was captured, and uploaded to You Tube, and can be found by searching for; Notting Hill Carnival 2013, Police Dance Off, or a direct link is on the Ministry of Soca‘s web page.
Over the Sunday and Monday parades there were 200 and 80 arrests, for minor offences, but it was yet another successful carnival without any major incidents.
